Fellowships

Timothy Dwight College can be a source of funds for student independent summer study and research (Richter Grants), summer course work or internships (Bergin Fellowship), performing arts projects (Creative and Performing Arts Awards), senior year research projects (Mellon Grants) and some kinds of competitions or conferences.

Summer Fellowships

This award supports students to take independent study and research.  It cannot be for mere travel, or for a program of work, however valuable.  An internship, for example with a government agency, is a valid use only if there is a significant component of study or research, which must be carefully identified.

Established by the Mott Woolley Council in 1988, the Bergin Fellowship is awarded to an underclass student of Timothy Dwight College for summer study, an internship, or work experience.

The Chubb Student Fellowship is designed to provide equal opportunity for Timothy Dwight students to undertake public service or leadership development in any professional field, though government and public affairs will take priority.

Academic Year Fellowships

Administered by the Council of Heads of College, the Creative and Performing Arts (CPA) Awards support on-campus dramatic, musical, dance, video or film productions, literary publications, and exhibitions in each residential college. The CPA has a fall and spring semester application cycle.  Students may apply in September for projects produced in the fall semester, or that will be produced in the spring semester prior to Spring Break. Students may apply in January for projects produced at any time during the spring semester.

The Mellon Senior Research Grant provides funding to offset the costs associated with a senior research project or senior essay.

The Timothy Dwight Community Engagement Fellowship supports student efforts to create and foster long lasting relationships with New Haven institutions and organizations.  The fellowship provides students with an annual stipend of $600 to undertake public service projects in any field, but collaborations with institutions within the vicinity of TD have priority.  Fellows are expected to contribute a minimum of 3-5 hours per week to the partnering organization while classes are in session during the fall and spring semesters. In recent years, our students have worked with LEAP (Leadership, Education & Athletics in Partnership), IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services), and the New Haven Public Library to name just a few.
