Dear Red Lions,
As a cardiologist, I am a strong proponent of movement (i.e. walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, weightlifting) for ALL of my patients regardless of their ability levels. Why? Movement improves mortality, mental health, bone health, blood pressure, cholesterol, joint mobility, skin health, gut health (and on and on). Every part of us does better when we move. And when stress hits (and we all know it will), movement is one of the best ways to reduce stress. Moving WITH friends is even better because it pairs two evidence-based methods of improving health—social connection and exercise.
So, I am excited for a new year of the TD Move Club, where we get together every Saturday morning at 10am and walk/jog/run around the city. For those that run/jog we tend to go anywhere from 3-5 miles (think East Rock park and back), but if you want to walk just grab some friends and head down the Farmington Canal trail for as long as your heart desires.
